The 1984 is an overdrive & distortion pedal based on the 1981 Inventions DRV.

At its core, this circuit is a modified Rat, which we all know and love, but has key differences that make it a bit more palatable to more folks. And no, that isn't some newspeak way of me trying to get you to buy this pedal.

The 1984 is what I have always wanted a Rat style drive to be, with a more usable gain sweep, and the ability to run it at lower gain settings without losing what makes it, "it", ya know?
I'm also a sucker for a tone control that acts as a treble cut, plus, it has an internal charge pump to run at 18V, and we all know that 18V is twice as good as 9V. Some may even be so bold as to call it double plus good.

How I use it: Personally, I run the 1984 as a lead boost for those thick, soaring lead tones. The volume gives me a bump, I set the drive knob pretty dang high, and the cut to taste depending on the guitar.
If I'm using it for rhythm stuff, I will back off the gain to below noon (let's call it 10 o'clock), and the volume at unity.

Features:
- Internal charge pump to run at 18V (plug in 9V DC ONLY)
- Top-mount jacks
- Controls: Volume, Drive, and Cut - Cut acts as a low-pass/hit-cut filter
- Internal switch for buffered- or true-bypass
- Socketed op-amps for tonal exploration (DIY at your own risk)
- Socketed LED brightness resistor (again, DIY at your own risk)
- Socketed clipping diodes - stock is silicon, just like the OG rat. Throw in some LEDs, germanium, whatever!
